Carb-lovers — toss in cooked pasta with the tuna. Bread will work as a side.
Dairy-free — serve the roast broccoli with tuna and lashings of mayo.
Variations
I use double cream because it’s more creamy but regular cream will work too. And I like tuna but tuna is fine. Use tuna in oil because the texture is much nicer than tuna if you can.
For: 2-3
Carnivore — substitute lettuce with crispy bacon or cooked chorizo.
With love,
Have fun in the kitchen!
1. Slice onion in half lengthwise, remove skins and slice each half to 1/2 moons. Chop broccoli into bite sized pieces (slice the stems and include them too!) .
Although I couldn’t convince my boys it was good. Maybe I want to try it so at least it doesn’t look green and ‘healthy’. Audience those pre-schoolers!
WINE MATCH: A nice buttery Chardonnay.
When I was growing up my favorite favourite meal was my Mum’s Tuna Mornay that we called ‘Tuna Dish’. When I began moving away from eating wheat and pasta, this was something that I really missed. And then I had the idea to try it with roast broccoli instead of cream and the pasta instead of the bechemel sauce. Very happy to report this ticks all the boxes.
Vegetarian — skip the lettuce and add a bit more cheese.
Takes: 30 minutes
1 tsp finely chopped into 1/2 moons
2 heads broccoli
1 cup cream
1-2 med cans tuna (180g / 6oz each)
2 big handfuls grated cheese
Absolutely! Prepare everything but do not bother with the 5 minutes in the oven. To serve, pop in the oven (250C / 480F) for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is all melted and everything is hot.
2. Layer veg in a roasting pan.
More substantial — the cheese up and/or the tuna.

Looking to get a weekly meal planning service where somebody else comes up with the ideas for what to have for supper?Different veg — cauliflower is the best substitute. I’m thinking eggplant, zucchini and peppers might be nice too. I made something similar by baking it and then wilting down chopped kale on the stove.
Tired of determining what to cook?3. Stir in cream and tuna. Top with cheese and pop back in the oven for another 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and golden.
