Because I was really in Portland to picture events at Feast, almost all of my time was spent doing just that…. Anytime I get to listen to people talk about food and beverage while sipping on a sampling of local beers and taking the picture, I’m happy as a clam.

Co-mingle, I returned to picture a few events with some fellow bloggers and of course, eat and drink all of the things.
Where I Ate:
Therefore the fact of the matter is I didn’t have a ton of time to strike up a whole lot of restaurants on the trip but even there are.
And I would not be a lot of cocktail writer if I didn’t attend a cocktail event, so I did! The two teamed up to educate a barful of eager imbibers to drink and to communicate with your bartender. We walked a bit tipsy, away happy and a lot more knowledgeable about the way to be.
This time around I settled in at the Hi-Lo Hotel which opened this year in the corner of SW 4th and Stark. The hotel is housed in the 1910 Oregon Pioneer Building and drew on the talents of local makers to furnish the new space. By Pendleton Wool blankets to Maak Lab’s shampoo and conditioner to reclaimed wood from Pioneer Millworks, the space highlights some of the finest state and that the city have to offer.
This is nowhere near an exhaustive list of my favourite spots in the city. I plan to post a comprehensive city guide in the future but in the meantime, never hesitate to email me if you are headed to Portland. There are a lot of spots which are dear to my heart and I’m always pleased to share with people! Cheers y’all!
This year I photographed three events such as a seminar on Beaujolais moderated Bon Appetit Wine Editor Marissa Ross (in case you don’t know of her job, look her up! She recently wrote a book and she is a humorous human being).
Oh my gosh folks! Where have I been for the last couple of months. Fantastic question! The solution is long and winding but largely involves many a weekend spent eating, drinking and taking photos in Portland, OR (shocker, I know). For the past couple of years in a row, September has meant Feast PDX- the town’s food festival sprinkled with star chefs makerssandwich contests and an entire evening dedicated to smoked BBQ.
Small Bird Bistro’s hamburger is top of my list. On my first night in town, I sidled up by myself and savoured every bite of the hamburger ordered L’Americaine with a glass.
My personal favourite touch were the swings in the lobby which I sat in each day while sipping on my morning coffee. Well…. . That along with the MASSIVE shower in my area. Seriously, I could have have fit my entire apartment in the restroom (ok…. Not my entire apartment but definitely my kitchen). It was a luxury to come home to after a day of shooting.
I also always make time to visit with with the fine folks at Bar Casa Vale to get a little chorizo-style charred octopus and a gin and tonic. And somehow, amid all of the hustle and bustle of the weekend, I managed to sneak away for a buddy brunch at Milk Glass Market- my first trip to the cafe but definitely not my last. Just order anything on their buttermilk biscuits. I promise.
