Do you get things tailored frequently? Tell us about your own tailoring experiences!
Getting an item tailored can be an great way to produce a bit of clothes fit you. A great tailor can work some magic, so it’s great to know how to use their abilities.
- Put your jeans on, then utilize a tape measure to locate your desired length. Find the amount then divide that number by 2.
- Take off the jeans and cuff them in 1 fold. The amount of the fold should be half of the number of inches you need to lose.
- Directly below the original hem, stitch around the fold. Stay as close to the line of the hem as possible.
- Flip the fold within the jeans and down iron them.
As great as it would be, it’s not practical to tailor everything you own. Tailor the items which you will wear often and for a long time. Dresses , great blazers and classic work trousers are perfect items to tailor, and the investment in these pieces will be well worth it.
Don’t forget your shoes!
When determining if something should get hemmed, try on the shoes you are most likely to wear with the product. If you are choosing whether or not to hem a pair of jeans, try them on with your footwear. Always wear heels with your denim? Put on a set to decide how. It’s a major bummer realize they’ve been hemmed to wear and then to wear a pair of heels with your jeans!
Leave enough time.
Perfection can’t be rushed, so make certain to take your item to the tailor with loads of time to spare before you want it worn. Don’t be afraid to call, if you’re not sure how long your tailor will have to complete your project!
